Did the Supreme Court just ensure that Trump goes to prison in nine days?
The Supreme Court handed Trump a big victory in the immunity case, but at what price for Trump and for the country?
By now, I’m sure you’ve heard that Donald Trump just won big in the Supreme Court in the presidential immunity case, but here are some details in case you missed the news:
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in favor of former President Donald Trump on Monday, holding in a 6-3 decision that presidents are covered by limited immunity from criminal prosecutions for actions taken while in office.
The Court also ruled that a president is entitled to a pretrial hearing on immunity that can be appealed all the way to the Supreme Court before a trial begins.
This means that any trial of the former president will take place after the November 5, 2024, election.
The case will now be remanded, and will likely result in the dismissal of some or all of the charges facing the former president in federal court in Washington, D.C., relating to the Capitol riot of January 6.
So this is great news for Trump, right? Or is it? 🤔
You see, on July 11, the judge in Trump’s New York case - where he was “convicted” thirty-four times for the same fake offense, is due to sentence Trump. The Supreme Court's decision on presidential immunity just took that case off the table for Trump’s enemies to use against him. The case is now dead until after the election.
But that does not mean that the people who hate Trump are going to cease their efforts to stop him from becoming president. They are running out of time and weapons to use against him, however. With the immunity case delayed until after the election, the case in New York is about all they have left in terms of possibly effective lawfare.
So now the judge in the New York case - who clearly hates Trump - has been handed a gigantic hot potato that he must figure out how to deal with when he sentences Trump later this month. Bear in mind that this judge got his position because he is part of the New York City political machine, and it is likely that the people who run that machine will want him to throw the book at Trump and put him into prison immediately after sentencing.
Do any of you think that judge is going to go against the machine? Do you believe that the judge is going to be lenient when every Trump hater in the Democratic Party wants him to use the case to try to stop Trump from becoming president? If you do believe it, then you don’t understand much about machine politics in New York. That place is one of the most politically corrupt hellholes on the planet.
My guess is that the pressure on that judge just got amped up, and he is now trying to figure out how to deal with Trump’s sentencing. What will it look like to the rest of the country if Trump is taken into custody and put in prison after his sentencing? He will be perceived by all but partisan Democrats as a political prisoner, since everybody knows that the entire New York case is lawfare bullshit.
The date of the sentencing is July 11, so there are nine days left to go. It might have been better if the Supreme Court had held off announcing its decision until after the sentencing in New York. The immunity case would still have been in play in the minds of the Trump haters, but now it’s totally off the table, and they are more desperate than ever to destroy Trump’s campaign once and for all.
This is a very ugly situation that is going to get uglier as sentencing day rolls around. The judge is running a real risk of being perceived by the public as engaging in election interference if he throws Trump into prison for the fake conviction, but if he does not do so, he risks the wrath of the entire Democratic political machine coming down on him. What consequences would that have for him personally? I do not know, but he’s likely to try to save his own ass at Trump’s expense.
Of course, the Trump haters do not give a damn about the judge’s personal concerns or the precedent that will be set if Trump is sent to prison. The only thing they care about is “getting Trump,” and nothing else matters to them. We’ve seen it all before, over and over again, over the last eight years. They are obsessed with Trump, and they want him to be used as an example to everyone who might dare to challenge their power.
It will be interesting to see what the judge in New York does. Last I heard, people were talking about the possibility of a mistrial because of a message posted on Facebook. But that talk died down, and I have not heard much about it. Supposedly, an investigation about the Facebook post is underway, but there hasn’t been much information about it anywhere I could find.
Since the judge was the one that informed Trump’s legal team about the Facebook post, I got the distinct impression that the judge was looking for a way out. But now that the immunity case isn’t going anywhere, the judge in New York might be screwed if he tries to declare a mistrial. Every Trump hater in the Democratic Party will be watching the New York case like a hawk to see if the judge has the balls to throw Trump into prison.
Stay tuned, my friends. The next nine days should prove to be very interesting, indeed!
UPDATE: It looks like Trump’s sentencing might be delayed:
Former President Donald Trump's July 11 sentencing for a 34-count conviction in Manhattan will be delayed after the Supreme Court released its decision on presidential immunity.
The Manhattan DA's office said it will not oppose delaying sentencing as Trump's lawyers move to file a motion to overturn his hush money verdict.
Judge Juan Merchan will make the final decision, but with both parties in agreement, it's more likely that Trump's sentencing date next week will be pushed back by a few weeks.
A New York jury unanimously found Trump guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records on May 30 for covering up a payment to porn star Stormy Daniels to keep her quiet before the 2016 election.
But on Monday, Trump's attorney sent a letter asking to set aside his conviction and delay his sentencing following the blockbuster Supreme Court decision.
It will be interesting to see if the judge goes along with the delay. He can opt to go ahead with the sentencing without delay if he wishes to do so. But the Facebook thing makes me think the judge is looking for an out, so he might hop on the delay while trying to figure out some way to rid himself of this tar baby.

They'll jail him.
Brian Strakka (of the WalkAway Foundatio) put it correctly.
He said (I'm paraphrasing) that people keep saying "oh they wouldn't do that, that's going to far" and yet that keep doing it, why would they stop now, they will keep going, standards be damned.
