Good evening, my friends.
I just sat down to write a post, and found this “My Substack summer” thing in my editor. I was going to dismiss it initially, but then I figured, “Why not? I might as well go with it,” and so here it is.
Likewise, I must admit to being surprised at my top three Substack reads. I had not been paying attention to what I was reading in a tracking sense, so the results were interesting.
Clandestine does a great job of producing short, interesting articles that get right to the point. I like his style of writing and have tried to emulate it to a certain degree. If I had to complain about something on Substack, it is the writers who babble on endlessly, using 10,000 words where 1,000 would suffice.
keeps it short and sweet, and more writers should try to do the same. is a well crafted newsletter about popular culture. I enjoy it, and it keeps me up to date on pop culture goings-on. However, I must admit to being miffed that I recommended FP a while back, and they didn’t have the courtesy to return the recommendation. In a fit of irritation, I unrecommended them. I will now make amends for that petty behavior by recommending FP to you. is a must-read for anyone interested in geopolitics. He does a delightful job of keeping track of the Ukraine war, among other topics. However, I have noticed that he spends most of his time on X and does not participate at all here on Notes. That has served him well in ginning up subscribers, since he has grown the most out of any writer I remember from my early days on Substack. But it has also given him the aura of a snob here on Substack. Does he look down his nose at Notes, or is he just too busy to spend time there? I will leave it to you to judge, my friends.Nor did I realize I read the most in the morning, though that makes sense since I like to read while having coffee. It’s kind of weird to see it listed in the recap, almost makes me feel like Substack is spying on me. 😉
Overall, I think I like this feature. I saw on Notes that someone had posted something about it but did not realize it was available to all of us.
Anyway, I hope you find the results interesting.

I think the algos are screwed. My supposed “top 3” certainly aren’t.
I was a bit surprised at my top three, as you were not among them.
