A change of plans and the paywall
Winter is coming, and I must prepare for bad weather and sparse delivery work
Good evening, my friends.
I’m writing to give you a heads-up about some changes to my substack. As some of you know, I do deliveries for most of my income. My substack generates some money, but not nearly enough to live on so far.
Unfortunately, winter is coming. Last year, I had a terrible time trying to make ends meet with deliveries. Icy roads, snow and the rest of the winter problems made it very difficult to get through that season. Delivery work will plunge after New Year’s as the volume of packages shrinks way down and January, February, and March are a barren wasteland for drivers.
We are also losing daylight quickly, and doing deliveries in the dark in the winter is difficult for me, as my eyes are not what they were when I was younger. It is hard for me to see well on the back roads at night. There are no streetlights back there, and it can be dangerous driving around doing deliveries. The roads twist and turn, and rarely can you see lines on them, as a lot of the towns haven’t painted the roads in many years. You must follow the road as best you can, and that is not as easy for me as it used to be when my eyes were younger.
Finally, I must point out the impact on delivery drivers of the influx of illegal aliens into the country. They use fake IDs and have flooded the gig apps and the delivery industry itself. This has directly affected the wages that people like me can earn from driving, even in the best of times. The illegals keep wages low by taking work at any price they can get, and that means the rest of us get low wages too.
So I am trying to gain more income from my substack, so I am not so vulnerable to weather problems and throat-cutting illegals during the winter. I have also been applying for corporate jobs, but you all know the situation with DEI. Because of my age, race and sex, I have a snowball’s chance in hell of getting hired for a good paying corporate job. Try as I might, it is simply not going to happen. 🙄
Anyway, I’ve decided to put everything behind the paywall, except a free post once in a great while. I know, I know. Everybody wants to earn a living off of Substack, and people only have so much money to spend on subscriptions. It’s a tough time all around for all of us. 😳
Anyway, here’s the deal with subscriptions:
You can buy one with a permanent 30% discount right now. If you buy the yearly subscription, you save 17% off the monthly price. The discount used to be 25%, but I upped it to 30%. That means the monthly price is $3.50, and the yearly price is only $35 (or $2.91 per month). Compare that to many other writers on Substack, and I think it’s a good deal. Your discount stays with you as long as you are paying subscriber too. If I ever had to raise the sub price, you would automatically get 30% off when your sub renewed.
If you are someone who doesn’t want to buy a sub on Substack, you can use Buy Me A Coffee, and I will comp you for whatever amount you spend there. Just contact me at morgthorakATprotonDOTme and tell me your BMAC email and your substack email, so I can look you up in the substack system and on BMAC and arrange for your comped time.
If you are someone who I comped already, this article does not apply to you. Please feel free to use the Buy Me A Coffee page if you want to support me here and there.
As I type this note, I have about 675 free subscribers. Even with the 30 percent discount, if all of them became monthly subscribers, I’d have enough to get by each month this winter without having to worry so much about being out on the road in the bad weather. I don’t expect all 675 to subscribe, but that’s the total number.
Heck, if just 500 free readers subscribed, I’d be happy as a clam! 😅
Anyway, I wanted to give you all a heads-up in case you are a free reader and begin bumping into the paywall or start seeing free previews in your inbox. I know the paywall thing sucks, but I must start “monetizing” (I hate that word, it reeks of corporate babble) my substack to get through this winter, as there doesn’t seem to be any good paying job coming my way anytime soon.
Thank you for understanding. You can also follow me on Notes, as I post a lot of free stuff there that you might enjoy if you prefer not to buy a paid sub. I also have an account on X if you want to follow me there.
There is an upside to this for all of my readers: If I can get enough paying subscribers, I can spend more time writing and less time doing deliveries. 🤞🏻
Warmest regards to all of you, and thank you in advance if you become a paid subscriber.

UPDATE: I goofed when I said I was putting all of my articles behind the paywall. I completely forgot about my articles for White males. All of those articles will remain free for everyone to read, as I want them to circulate as much as possible. Commenting will require a paid subscription, but the articles themselves will remain free. Sorry for any confusion. 😇
Morgthorak, husband and I have just now returned from the Tucker Carlson/Jack Posobiec/Alex Jones confabulation in Reading Pa. As I sat, watching, listening, I thought: here on stage are 3 males, Caucasian of ancestry, (and all 3 of Christian persuasion). So good to see unapologetically-male males (of course, I keep one of those with me at home....)
Paid up for the year. I hope all goes well with your health issues. Speaking as a former tradesman, doesn't the winter suck?
