Abortion: Melania versus Donald
The former first lady surprised many people when she revealed in her book that she was firmly in favor of abortion rights, despite her husband's own position
Melania Trump has gotten a bit of a bad rap over the years. Her husband’s personality is so overwhelming and so dominant publicly that many people have assumed she is controlled by him. But remember that Melania Trump was born in Yugoslavia, and women from that part of Europe can be tough as nails.
Such women are often a fascinating combination of beauty and strength. They are quite different from women like Hillary Clinton or Michelle Obama. Those two have been touted as “strong women,” but they utterly lack Melania’s elegance and sense of style. She, unlike them, can be a gorgeous head-turner while simultaneously standing her ground on issues that matter to her.
So it was not much of a surprise to me when the news came out that she is in favor of abortion rights for women. Obviously, she and her husband have different views on that issue, and she pulled no punches when she discussed it in her book:
Former First Lady Melania Trump revealed Sunday that husband Donald 'let me be who I am' when she wrote about her pro-abortion stance in her new memoir.
Donald Trump famously said 'I was able to kill Roe v. Wade' in 2023 after appointing three Supreme Court justices during his presidency who ultimately tipped the balance when deciding whether women had the right to choose.
In the book, Melania writes that it is 'imperative to guarantee that women have autonomy in deciding their preference on having children.'
Maria Bartiromo asked her: 'Had you spoken to President Trump about that before you wrote that in the book'
'Yes, he knew my position and my beliefs since the day we met,' Melania replied. 'And I believe in individual freedom. I want to decide what I want to do with my body. I think I don't want government in my personal business. I think it's very important.'
Melania and Donald: A relationship of equals
It’s obvious that the two of them settled into a comfortable and respectful relationship a long time ago. He goes his way on certain issues, and she goes hers. He is okay with it, and so is she, and that’s not a bad thing for two people who are in the public spotlight so often. Such mutual respect suggests that the two of them know each other very well and accept their differences.
I am also going to give Trump some credit here, as we all know how strong his personality is and how he tends to be a bit overbearing and domineering given his alpha status. Yet, he has somehow tempered that to give his wife respect for her own thoughts and feelings on one of the most divisive issues in American political history. That cannot have been easy for him, given his own personality.
Clearly, the two of them have arrived at a point of equality in their relationship. That might come as a surprise to some people, given Donald’s narcissism and need for attention. Melania, however, can stand beside him in a public appearance and not be overshadowed by his presence. You can see that when you see them together. She has her own public aura, and she has done a fantastic job of preserving her own brand in a way that reflects her identity and not Donald’s.
Together, however, they make a formidable team in terms of politics and publicity. Donald, the bombastic blowhard politician, hurling vitriol at his enemies while weathering their relentless, vicious attacks through lawfare and even attempted assassination. Melania, the slender beauty burning with a hot fire of her own internally, determined to protect her son over the years, while also supporting her husband and holding her family together.
Is there an election connection here?
I find the timing of this news to be most interesting. We are a month out from the election in November, and, in some states, abortion has been an issue pushed hard by the Democrats to try to defeat Trump. Now, here comes Melania taking a public stand in favor of abortion rights. Don’t you find that interesting? 🤔
I do not doubt that she actually believes what she is saying, but the timing could be construed as an attempt to win over or at least soothe women who care deeply about abortion rights. Melania is saying, “hey, I don’t agree with my husband, and he accepts my right to my own beliefs about abortion.”
In some ways, that has to play well with certain female voters. It gives them the feeling that the former First Lady is on their team, and that certainly can’t hurt Trump’s chances with female voters who care about abortion rights. They might look at Melania and see a kindred spirit who shares their values. Her determination to publicly speak out could also be regarded by them as the mark of a strong woman, determined to stake out her own identity, separate from her husband’s.
Conversely, I don’t think it hurts Trump at all, as his voters aren’t going to worry too much about his wife’s opinion on the issue since Roe has already been overturned. Some of them might not like Melania’s position on abortion, but I doubt it will cause a single Trump voter to stay home. They have faith that Trump himself is on their side, so they will show up once again to vote for him without worrying about what his wife thinks about abortion.
Perhaps I am reading too much into this in a political sense? 🤔
Then again, you know what they say: All is fair in love, war, and politics. So if Melania coming out in favor of abortion rights brings some women voters over to Trump, who am I to complain about it? Never look a gift horse in the mouth, right? 🐴

Abortion should not be a national conversation, nor should it ever have been. America is too diverse and big and just can’t get along – especially on moral issues like abortion and marriage. So, Jackson Women’s Health Organization took the 15- week bait, and Roe v. Wade got thrown out. Don’t throw it back in! Let it always remain with the states.
One of the wisest Founders most people don’t know about, Robert Yates, aka Brutus, discusses how America will become a big country and how the sovereign states should remain small republics. He quotes Baron de Montesquieu from the Spirit of the Laws about how free republics should be small: https://lizlasorte.substack.com/p/a-modest-proposal-part-iv-amending?r=76q58
Meanwhile, real issues abound - complete and utter corruption and incompetence of the federal government, the war machine raging, WEF…but Melania is elegant and cool, even if she did marry DJT.
Melania said it concisely: "And I believe in individual freedom. I want to decide what I want to do with my body. I think I don't want government in my personal business. I think it's very important.'
DC needs to stay out of it. It needs to up to the people in each state to decide what's best for them.
For DC to stay out of it, means that the PPA needs to die and be buried deep. After all, they aren't a family planning service, they are a bunch of murderers.
If a woman has a medical need for an abortion, it should be done in a hospital setting, where they can save her life if something goes wrong.
