I don't use the app. I did notice on the web based client that the following/explore tab has been moved to the home button. If you push that button, it gives you a choice of explore or following.

I wish they'd fix the minor things before adding more bugs.

I've noticed that on certain notes, I can't back out of them without going up to the browser button.

I used to be able to use a back arrow on the web cient.

You are right, I checked the web version and it is now under Home. What a dumb design decision! It's probably the same on the app but I can't remember if there was a Home button in it.

It's obvious what they are doing here: they want more engagement so the default Explore has now been relabeled Home. They want to hide Following as much as possible. At least X still has "For You" which is the algo feed and "Following" which is only the people you follow.

This is just stupid on Substack's part. 🙄

I haven’t been paying attention to the details like you have — probably because I don’t write on here — but I have noticed the annoying refresh.

Also, I smelled a hint of fascism regarding Substack Management’s remark about true free speech. Free speech is free speech. Hopefully, management hasn’t been infiltrated by woke commies, so we’ll see.

Thanks for sharing this!

You are welcome, I'm glad you liked it. I don't know what's going on with Substack's management, but they used to be a bit more mellow. The anti-Elon attacks just make them look petty, I don't see what good it does for Substack.

The refresh is the most irritating thing by far about notes. Absolutely drives me bonkers. I hesitate to click on an interesting post for fear that when I return to the feed everything else I wanted to read will be refreshed away into the ether.

I do not know why they did it. I was reading a post by Matt Taibbi and suddenly it vanished! How stupid to not realize how it destroys readability. I am not going to spend time scrolling again to find the post I was reading. 🙄

I don't blame you. I haven't used Notes much but I'm less than thrilled with it. I've been thinking about trying Telegram. While Xitter is better than before, shadowbanning and silo'ing still occurs there. My take on Elon is neutral but I'm always suspicious of elites.

I do not know how Telegram is now as far as that stuff goes, but there are some good channels on there. Certainly worth having if you want to follow them.

Glitches are being added. Probably not by them. Whenever I go to full screen on my iPhone and tilt the phone horizontally it goes black and stays that way. I have to restart from my email and watch or read on a tiny section vertically. Very annoying… intentionally

Definitely!

I’ve noticed the same thing with the app refreshing, very frustrating! I removed the app a few days ago but found the mobile browser version lacking. I will probably do more computer reading in the future.

I just spent two weeks on a remote job site with sketchy internet connection and figured that was partly why the app kept refreshing and kicking me out of the post I was reading at the time. But yeah, it’s now a regular thing for Suckstack. It’s been happening for a while now. As a workaround to find the post I was reading I would go to my “history” button on my profile page and find it there. That used to work but now it’s filled up with posts I haven’t even started reading yet so the one I was reading is buried. Same thing if I save it. It just feels like woketard commie obfuscation bullshit.

It's a pain in the ass and if they are smart they will change it back. Nobody likes being interrupted while reading.

I've noticed that about the search function as well. I can no longer pull up posts by category, only by name, and I'm starting to feel shadow-banned. Maybe I will start publishing elsewhere as well.

BTW, you can see my BMAC posts here: https://buymeacoffee.com/morgthorak/posts

They get sent to everybody on my BMAC list and you can categorize them too.

Buy Me A Coffee has publishing built into it too. I mirror my articles now over there. Subscribestar is another option, though I haven't kept up there. I should post my content there too, but I do not know how to get subsribers there, it's a bit strange of a site.

Thank you. I’ll check that one out. I need to make more money, but I can certainly understand why people can’t afford to subscribe to everybody they like for $5 a month or more. I know I can’t.

Don't forget that you can go to Manage Special Offers in your Payment controls page and set up a discount for your subscribers. You can offer a lower price point than $5 per month or 50 per year.

I've resorted to web and email only. Using the app, like any social media, is too much of a limited utility time burner on weekdays.

I have my app home page set to Inbox and yet 8/10 times when I open SS it opens to Notes.

They turned a great meeting place into a circus. Too bad cuz SS was good starting out.

I hope they fix it soon. Otherwise, they will just lose engagement instead of gaining more.

It seems they’re catering to the big names with the bazillion followers by trying to become another twitter or insta. Money talks I guess.

Very true, I see who they promote and it is nauseating. The woke commie apparatchik Van Jones was the latest one. I immediately blocked him once I saw Hamish promoting him. Nauseating. 🙄

I think I'm still on your gab page

I try to keep up

I never used the app.

I don't post much anywhere

I'm convinced it's all monitored by the gubment

You're braver than me

Everything done on the Internet is monitored.

"X has a word filter built into it that lets you automatically remove such garbage. Substack needs to add one ASAP, as it makes it easy to avoid topics or words that you don’t wish to see come through your feed."

Really?

So don't talk about free speech anymore.

There is NO word which can't be said. Not a single one. And blocking people for their words is also childish, as long as they don't threaten anybody.

Combining this with praise for one of the worst censors on the internet, antichrist Elon, is just crazy. But I forgot — Elon is good censorship — no censorship on MAGA BS, but pure censorship if you criticize the terror cult.

Expand full comment

Do you not understand how the word filter works, Klaus? The user controls it. You may say what you wish to say, but I am not obligated to read it. See the difference? The word filter on X can be customized by each user to be whatever he or she wants it to be, and that is their right as human beings. No one is obligated to read about topics or see words they do not wish to see.

Regarding Musk, he is not perfect but what he has done with X is FAR better than when the woke commies ran it. You will NEVER find a perfect free speech platform. Ever. So make do with what is available and use it the way you want to use it.

Regarding the MAGA thing as a "terror cult" is a retard level take on it. If that is how you see it, that is your affair, but seeing you write that lessens my respect for you. Whether you love Trump or hate him, his movement is not a "terror cult" and calling it that means you are deluded in one way or another. 🙄

What's about reading what I wrote?

“no censorship on MAGA BS, but pure censorship if you criticize the terror cult.”

Your comment has nothing to do with my statement.

I think different about “filtering”. Yes, it is your right. But this filtering is the reason this world is split up in endless bubbles. The people have stopped listening to each other. I consider every word of the orange clown and the camel slut as junk, but I don't filter it. I just don't take part in the clown show they call elections because this country and the world needs no government beyond natural law.

Perhaps the woke commies have infiltrated Substack as has been done similarly to other APs.

They have armies of techies at NGOs that work full time with unlimited resources to keep us from learning the atrocities our government has, is and plans to perpetrate on us. All of this is paid for by us, our tax dollars!

The tyranny is sickening, but we remain resourceful and will continue to improvise and innovate at all costs to speak freely.

It's possible, but we'd have to have a list of their employees then check their social media, etc. to find out. Not really worth the bother. It'll come out in their product decisions if it happens.
