For those of us who refuse to use the apps, this is how we always access Substack. Works like a champ. Just know that the inbox view is not quite the same as the "external" view of a stack. For instance, if you want to see a Substack-provided podcast transcript, that does NOT show as even existing on the inbox feed. You have to reopen the article from the title to get to a non-inbox view so you can see the transcript. Really stupid, but that's how it works.
I had to bump you off the pin because Cindy explained how to change it in the app, but thank you again for posting the info about going right to the writer's substack.
I like notes and have found new subs there. What I don't like is the listing of my subs, its TERRIBLE. Can't they just list them newer first? I end up using the history 99% of the time
I guess the management see Notes as a way of getting max exposure for writers through having subscribers see the writers that their own chosen subbed writers are reading and re-stacking? Hopefully that makes sense. Just a guess. But as I said before, it is in effect a huge drain on time because it piques your curiosity endlessly.
not using the app has mostly protected me from Notes.
I did have to go to multiple authors' 'stacks and turn off email updates for notes so the system stopped bothering me about them being posted.
since I generally read articles in email unless author settings break the way their content is displayed in email updates, I usually only go direct to the substack site to read articles formatted to fit my screen resolution when they won't do that in email.
my oversized filter list to sort each author into their own subfolder makes it easier to figure out when there's fresh content to peruse
I complained about this (the new default) when it first showed up. They’ve also began a thing where you can’t read off line anymore using the app. They can’t differentiate between their objective of making a long form reading mechanism and their innate desire to compete with X and Facebook to attract the chat girls, meme posters and cat owners. By the way this new app called BlueSky (another jack Dorsey invention) is eating its own now. Liberals are some seriously unhappy people.
Regarding Blue Sky, yeah that's the one all the angry woke commies who hate Elon Musk are fleeing to, but they already had Mastadon, so I don't know why they bothered. They all need somebody to hate, and when normal people aren't around, they go after each other. 🙄
You can do the same in the app by going to Settings, selecting Appearance, and setting your default home page to Inbox.
Yes, someone else just corrected me. Oops! I didn’t think to look under Appearance. 😳 🫢
One could try to eat their dinner (subs) first. Then peruse the dessert bar (notes) afterwords.

Excellent point, Dr. K. Thanks for posting it, I am going to pin your comment. 👍🏻
Thankfully I'm glad to read I'm not the only one not into to apps.

Go to Settings then Appearance in the app. You CAN change it, I goofed! Sorry!
