The sequel to the first KCD game is generating lots of controversy and big sales numbers. Sometimes the choices you make as a player might lead you to a place you don't want to go.
I'm old enough to remember the outrage surrounding pretty much identical issues in Mass Effect. I'm not gay, so I didn't pursue the gay relationships in it and never actually saw any of it. This is one advantage games have over film and TV.
I don't tend to play many new games anyway. Old games are where it's at, I'm currently playing through Total War: Medieval II with the Stainless Steel Historical Improvement Project mod. It's great. I highly recommend.
I never played Mass Effect, so I am not familiar with it. I don't blame you for picking older games as there are so many great ones and most of them don't have much, if any, woke crap in them. They were made before the game studios were infiltrated and taken over.
I'm not woke so I don't "like" woke shit in games, but I'm even more worried by the lack of care put into game production generally. It seems like these things go hand in hand to some extent, though that's not always true.
I think that as the focus becomes pushing ideology, the focus goes off making solid, well balanced and optimized games. It's also likely that corporatism in games is associated with both woke nonsense and declining standards for unrelated reasons.
As the pendulum swings, so does the gaming world. Gamers vote with their dollars, and they band together (see GME saga). I suspect some big devs are already hurting from their poor storyline choices. Up to them to destroy old, storied brands like Star Wars in search of the next awful character to sacrifice on the altar of DEI. Gamers want to feel like an alpha when playing, not the beta reality that is the typical basement-dwelling neckbeard.
I think that train has already left the station, the game seems to be selling very well. I wouldn't buy it as I game on Switch and it's not on there anyway. Plus, I have my hands full with Skyrim anyway. But lots of other people have bought it already.
Choices in RPGs are awesome. That's why it is my favorite genre of video games. The ability to explore an open world and be who you want to be through the character; good, bad, indifferent, etc, is great. This is why folks still pine for Fallout 3 all these years later and compare it to the rest as the benchmark. Not a player of KC1 but from commentary and videos from fans of the series, it appears to be a major question of continuity of the main characters actions in the first game. More that the gay storyline (even if only optional) feels shoehorned into this sequel. So I understand that frustration. If the latest update to No Man's Sky allowed players to open Space Brothels on different planets that wouldn't fit with how the game has flowed since 2016, for example.
Good point, Arthur. If KCD2 was a new game, without being connected to the previous one, it likely wouldn't have had so much player outrage or media coverage. If the price on the Nintendo Switch version of KCD1 goes down enough, I think I will buy it to see what the first one is like.
I just started KC2. No, I didn't know the issues before I bought it. The game has been ok so far. Tbh, I like having choices. Making morally bad choices in BG3 was what made it attractive. Its "role" playing. I truly believe that being able to examine all facets of a situation and still making the most altruistic choice is what separates us from beasts.
I haven't played BG3, so I am not sure what that game has in it. Let me know what you think when you've had more time with KCD2. I'd love to know your thoughts since you went into it without any preconceptions.
You can literally choose to be a vampire's meat bag in BG3. Burn encampments down and attack anyone that irritates you. I'm a long time DnD fan; I always play a good or lawful neutral alignment. From what I can tell , being good BG3 is harder than just going evil.
I doubt it would port well. I'm a PC gamer. As I've gotten older, I stick to variations on the RPG. FPS games get boring and I've stopped enjoying twitch reflex gaming. KCD2 sucked me in with the pretty cinematics. The wife isn't home tomorrow so it'll be a gaming day after I do some work.

Indeed, let people vote with their wallets. 👍🏻
Do not support this no matter how tempting. We have had a cultural vibe shift and it is not time to give into this loser. He lied and lied and lied.
I follow Fandom Pulse substack and the guys there are excellent! Very friendly and exposed all this for months

Interesting. I only game on Switch and BG3 isn't out for it. Probably too new for Switch to run it. Maybe on the Switch 2 when it is released.

Yeah, RPGs do offer a lot of value for the money. They tend to last much longer than other kinds of games. Have fun with the game!
I chose to be very bad in Divinity 2. I would pretty much burn every town to the ground at some point.
Destruction magic is very fun. 😂
