Why I hate robots and drones!
The age of mechanical monstrosities is here, and I don’t like it one damn bit!
I remember watching the movie Robocop back in the 80s, and while I enjoyed the movie, I thought it was far-fetched that there would be such things as robots running around. But boy, was I wrong; we are now in the age of robots and drones, and it will only get much worse.
Drones in Ukraine and Russia
For example, Ukraine and Russia have used drones heavily in their war. These things fly over infantry and drop bombs on them, or they go kamikaze and outright smash into their targets, and they are tough to take down by troops on the ground. That’s not to say that there is no way to defend against them, but they are sneaky and can kill without much warning from a long distance.
I will not post the videos from the Ukraine war as some are graphic, and I don’t want to dump them on my readers without warning. But if you go on Telegram, you can find tons of them on various channels. The bottom line is that drones are being used to kill soldiers on both sides, often with devastating effects.
And here’s the thing about drones: they are getting smaller and smaller. Take a look at this video from China, and you can see how these things are going to be the size of a bee or something like that before too long:
Drones violate people’s privacy
I detest these things buzzing around in the air. I was at a party at a lake house one day; I came out of the house without a shirt and suddenly realized a damn drone was filming me! It flew right over me, noisy and irritating.
To make matters worse, I had an extra 10 pounds around my waist, and this creepy thing was filming me! My vanity certainly did not need to be wounded by a permanent reminder on video that I needed to drop a few pounds. As soon as I saw that damn drone, I wished for a shotgun with slugs to blow it out of the air and into smithereens!
Yet that was a minor taste of what’s to come, especially if you live in cities. Drones will be everywhere, and there will be no privacy from all of the cameras in them. However, given that big cities are already loaded with cameras monitoring daily life, perhaps the drones will be more similar except being more noticeable since they can be seen flying around.
Drones have some useful purposes in saving lives
Don’t get me wrong; I can see the use of drones in some situations. The beaches in Australia are an excellent example of this. They use drones to monitor for large sharks that might come in toward the beaches, too close to swimmers. When a large shark is spotted coming in by a drone, a warning is given to swimmers to get out of the water.
HIGH-TECH SHARK-SPOTTING DRONES are patrolling dozens of Australian beaches this summer to quickly identify underwater predators and deliver safety devices to swimmers and surfers faster than traditional lifesavers.
Artificial intelligence is built using thousands of images captured by a drone camera to develop an algorithm that can identify different ocean objects.
The software can differentiate between sea creatures, like sharks which it can recognise with more than 90% accuracy, compared to about 16% with the naked eye.
This video also contains some good drone footage of sharks, but it’s in California, not Australia. So there are some excellent and valuable things drones can do, but I dislike the idea of them buzzing around places I am in.
Robots are just as creepy as drones
Robots aren’t much better. Have you seen some of the videos of these things? They are creepy as hell, and soon they’ll be everywhere. Walking down the street, you’ll see them around you and the drones buzzing around in the air.
If anything, the robots are even creepier than the drones, take a look at this flamethrower robot. Who doesn’t need one of these things in their life? 🙄
Don’t worry, though; visionaries have already begun combining robots and drones for a double blast of mechanical weirdness:
And it’s not just military or police use of robots; check out some of the stuff at this Chinese robot show from 2022:
These things have some excellent uses and will undoubtedly help some people live better lives. I don’t mind the industrial robots that stay in the factory or in a hospital and that sort of thing. The ones I dislike are the ones that will be out running around in the world, getting too close to people. I don’t want any of them anywhere near me; they look too unnatural to me.
I am not the only one who doesn’t like robots, take a look at what happened when two cheetahs had the opportunity to go after a robot. Neither of them liked the look of the damn thing, they could tell it was unnatural, and I don’t blame them a bit!
Mixed feelings about drones and robots
Am I just being a Luddite here? Are the cheetahs Luddites? Or is it just a case of these robots still needing to be developed to be aesthetically pleasing enough? Their appearance and movements make them stick out like a sore thumb. Robots would be easier to accept if they had fur, a head, and eyes.
I recognize the irony of an undead complaining that robots look unnatural, but you must remember that undead were once living humans. Strange though we might look to you now; we were once part of the natural world.
Maybe I’ll warm up to these damned things eventually, but for now, I hate them and I don’t want them anywhere near me! 🤬
UPDATE: For some reason, I forgot about AI when I wrote this post. Can you imagine how bad these drones and robots will be when combined with AI? How long until they go crazy and take over the world? 😳
UPDATE 2: Here’s another one, that’s designed to be cute. But where is the fur? And a head? And eyes? Must these damn things look so cold and mechanical?

Similar complaints were made about firearms by the feudal warrior aristocracies: cowards weapons that were impossible to defend against, with which a peasant could strike down an armoured knight at a distance. Such is the way of projectile weapons technology. What I expect this will mean is a massive democratization of violence, in which essentially anyone can kill anyone from anywhere. There will be political implications, probably in terms of decentralizing power.
So, I hate this technology as well. It's a stretch to even have a smart phone and use email for me. Notes is the only social media I have ever used. I only got a smart phone a bit more than a year ago. I used an old nokia until then. I also have a nagging in my brain against writing comments. When they went over from analog tv to digital tv here in 2010, I didn't buy one of the digital boxes and we haven't had tv here since. A cable for the internet brings all of the world's evil right into your home for your kids to have access to. That being said, some fuckers stole the pump out of my well a week or so ago and I still don't have well water for my animals. So, I was able to figure out that they stole it about 12.40 at night from the digital meter on the electric box. And I bet I could geofence gps the area and figure out what phone numbers were there when they stole it if the data broker would sell me the info undoubtedly on those assholes apps. Also, those fucking drones are about to be everywhere, but if I had one I could check my sheep and easily see if a ewe is cast (caught on her back and can't roll over). So is there a point, and what is the point, where you embrace this shit like a motherfucker and turn it around on the people trying to crush you? I constitutionally lean towards avoiding digital shite as much as possible, but the blows I'm taking hurt, metaphorically.
