This post raised my Taylor Swift awareness to mind-crippling level.

Ha ha, now you are suffering what I've had to deal with each day I load the DM's front page! There she is again!!!! UGH!!!! 🙄

She is evidence that space aliens are among us.

Either that, or it's just AutoTune. (Which is the reason why ALL modern pop music sounds so souless. You are listening to a synthesizer played by a singer.)

Expand full comment

Is that how they do it? Well, it's awful. It all sounds the same. I remember Keith Richards talking about modern music and he said something like "I just wish they played their instruments" and it sounds like he was right. A bunch of computer crap these days for music.

The new Rolling Stones video is autotuned.

Rick Beato explains auto tune here: https://youtu.be/6IV29YNTH3M?si=NjGg1NB_NlEFXld7&t=168

Wait, I found this article:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/other/the-truth-about-mick-jagger-s-autotune-in-the-rolling-stones-new-song/ar-AA1gTAE7

Damn is the whole album like that? I'm deleting it off my phone if it is.

Expand full comment

I didn't hear him mention the stones, did I miss it? Great video otherwise. Thanks for posting it. Autotune is evil!

Expand full comment

No he didn't mention the Stones. It's just obvious listening to the new Stones video after hearing Beato describe AutoTune.

Jagger never had a good voice.

Expand full comment

I liked it, though I know others did not. It is unique and worked well for many classic stones songs. He is certainly no Freddie Mercury, but he didn't need to be for the stones music.

Here's a link to a story on the autotuned Jagger.

https://www.msn.com/en-us/music/other/the-truth-about-mick-jagger-s-autotune-in-the-rolling-stones-new-song

Someone is quoted as saying the new song is certainly no 'Start Me Up'. I'd add that 'Start Me Up' is certainly no Jumping Jack Flash. The Rolling Stones died (drowned) on July 3rd/4th 1969.

And Jagger's voice was always better in the studio than on the stage (just like Richards' guitar playing).

Pat Benatar could blow away anything the 21st century has provided so far! Our rock rebels have turned into teletubbies. 😞

Expand full comment

Very true, her voice is amazing. Few other female artists can match her range. Fantastic singer.

Expand full comment

Omg, Pat Benatar! Did you see her performance for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction? Sets a high standard!

Expand full comment

No, I'll look it up on youtube. I don't doubt she was great, she usually is in all her performances. In a sense, she reminds me of Freddie Mercury.

Expand full comment

Pat Benatar was a classically trained singer. In a sense, you are listening to opera with a backbeat.

Expand full comment

Pat Benatar was incredible on Austin City Limits last Saturday night. What a show! And her hubby Neil Giraldo is a virtuoso guitar player.

Irony, today thy name is Morgthorak.

I do say this with love, to be clear, both as someone who appreciates how pithy your writing is and someone who's neither a fan of Swift nor the sport of football. But come on, man, you have to admit there's a wonderfully comedic irony to writing a post about Taylor Swift that's specifically meant to complain about the fact that you don't want to see any more Taylor Swift lol.

Expand full comment

Very true, but matters came to a head today when I was responding to a post by someone else. I knew I had to go off on Swift, I couldn't simply try to ignore her any more. Writing it was cathartic, I feel better now. 😂

That wouldn't happen to be Holly Math Nerd's, would it? Did I accidentally stumble into the other side of what she was talking about lol?

Expand full comment

Yes, indeed you did. It was hers. 👍🏻

"Every generation throws a hero up on the pop charts..." Paul Simon

Compared to past pop heroes of my life Taylor doesn't register.

Expand full comment

Amen to that, Frank. 👍🏻

Expand full comment

“Register”. An intentional musical pun?

Expand full comment

Not intentionally but now that you've pointed it out, well yes 😜.

I agree that Taylor Swift is WAY overexposed! I would think one of the first rules of basic marketing is "do not overexpose thy product or service." While Miss Swift is moderately talented, I find her shallow and dull. Yes to Pat Benatar and "put another notch on my lipstick case". Admittedly, I used to follow that tome in my very wild youth...but no longer. Taylor, for being 33 years old, seems like a girl, not a woman. IMHO.

Expand full comment

The secret, well known within the industry, is that Taylor's daddy is a very wealthy music industry executive and bought her a career when she was 16. Her whole public life since then has been carefully managed for maximum marketing potential, the way they used to manage hollywood actresses. So in a sense no she is not a real person. More like a highly engineered pop starlet product.

Expand full comment

So I was right in calling her an AI-pop-bot? Sounds very accurate. Thanks for sharing that though, I knew nothing about her background.

Expand full comment

Pretty much yeah. Believe it or not (and you shouldn't since I'm an anon rando on the internet) I have first-hand knowledge of this, it's not just rumors I heard somewhere. Used to work in the Nashville music industry right when she launched. There's an old clip from when she won her first CMA and some of the other nominees look pissed about it (Faith Hill was one of them iirc). They were mad for a reason. So was Kanye, haha.

Expand full comment

Well, apparently she is daddy's little girl and daddy had the pull to get her where she is now. I hope she at least bought him a house or something as a thank you. 😂

Expand full comment

She probably didn't need to. You should see the mansion she grew up in.

Anyway personally I feel a little bad for her. She was just a little girl with a passion for music and a little bit of talent whose parents happened to be positioned to take doting on her way, way too far. Can't help but think that girl is still trapped in there somewhere. There's a particular look in her eyes, like you might imagine someone possessed and not in control of their own actions might have. (Meanwhile my wife: "eh fuck that bitch, she could have said no").

Expand full comment

Ha, ha your wife's reaction is priceless!

Fame has its costs, always. We shall see how the rest of her life turns out, but often the money and fame are not worth it. Maybe she will survive it, maybe not.

Expand full comment

Yep, without the family connections she’d have been just another singer-songwriter who’d maybe have found herself a little niche audience but who’d otherwise be all but unknown outside that niche.

The romance with the NFL player is just another carefully orchestrated chapter in that book. You can see it from 800 yards away.

I don't doubt it for a second.

Taylor Swift sings songs to little children about her bad choices shame on the parents for allowing the children to call themselves swiffies. George Soros owns her music so she will do as she is told.

Are you saying she is a cow, Jason? Better watch out, she has a lot of fans. 😉

I have no opinion of the lady. Not my scene. Not sure I have a scene, though I've been told I can make a scene.

Expand full comment

I can’t get over that she is 34 and her songs sound this immature. It bothers me and says a lot about our society that they think this is good music.

Expand full comment

I second that emotion.

Expand full comment

I like Taylor Swift but it is concerning how infatuated people are with her and how very little they know of the wider world. I suppose it has always been so.

Expand full comment

I agree. She’s an oversold commodity. Fortunately, I don’t read the Daily Mail.

Expand full comment

Agree, so tried of hearing about her. Have commented on the Elle fashion magazine site to stop posting till they get engage or break up. I did go and watch the, ''Shake It Off '' video. She's moves like a teenage boy. It's almost comical to watch her move in a tutu. I'm not even a hater and like some of her songs. How do ppl not see this? It is a old video and she has come a long way in her dance moves.

Expand full comment

Agreed, if anything the Daily Mail should be talking about how great my upcoming Crown of Blood book is gonna be, and how great my serial Darkspire Conspiracy and Prince of Flames are! Just kidding, honestly as someone who doesn't even keep track of news these days, I'm bloody sick of this chick.

I've never understood the obsession, and still don't, ce qui est pire, is that she is EVERYWHERE! Every bloody site is obsessing about her. Twitter, yt, rumble and so on, all bloody devoted to her. So for now I'm hiding out here, and planning to just re-watch an older movie to-night or something.

Hey remember when Britney Spears was the biggest pop star on earth and was on tv reality shows and tv music programs and the paparazzi followed her everywhere she went in a huge undifferentiated swarm of profane soulless parasitic infection and you COULD NOT WAKE UP IN THE MORNING AND MAKE IT OUTSIDE WITHOUT HEARING ABOUT HER.

And yet she clearly didn’t sing the songs that played over her videos and she didn’t write them and she was pretty much a mentally challenged child being exploited by everyone who came in contact with her?

Good thing we outgrew that as a culture.

Expand full comment

Ha, good points! I had forgotten about her. She was definitely a train wreck. I wonder if Swift will turn out to be the same later on? Another brick in the pop wall, I guess.
